In October 2017, Montgomery County learned it was a finalist for a proposed Tyson Foods poultry processing plant. This announcement prompted us to take a look at the overall economic impact poultry could have on our area because a project like this could impact not only local jobs at the poultry processing plant but also benefit our local farmers.
Much of the local corn and soybean production in this area is already going to support the poultry industry in other states. It is advantageous to attract an industry that will add value to our local commodity in Montgomery County and Kansas. As the demand for poultry increases, there is great potential to grow this agricultural industry in our county and the state of Kansas.
Montgomery County is known for heavy industrial manufacturing. We continue to explore poultry as a way of diversifying the economic makeup of our county.
