In October 2017, Montgomery County learned it was a finalist for a proposed Tyson Foods poultry processing plant. This announcement prompted us to take a look at the overall economic impact poultry could have on our area because a project like this could impact not only local jobs at the poultry processing plant but also benefit our local farmers.

We found much of the corn and soybean production in our area is already going to support the poultry industry in other states so it made sense to keep the grain in Montgomery County and Kansas by attracting the industry here. As we continue to watch the demand for poultry increase, we believe there is great potential to grow the agricultural industry in our county and state.

Montgomery County is known for heavy industrial manufacturing. We continue to explore poultry as a way of diversifying the economic makeup of our county.
