Still On Track with Tyson
Monday, November 20, 2017
Montgomery County Action Council (MCAC) recently learned of Tyson Foods’ plans to construct a fresh-pack plant in Tennessee.
“We were recently informed that Tyson has plans to open more than one of these fresh-pack poultry processing plants,” said Trisha Purdon, MCAC Executive Director. “Tyson has indicated that due to the increasing demand for fresh-pack chicken products, they are still interested in establishing a poultry presence in Kansas. Congratulations to Humboldt, Tennessee and the surrounding area for working collaboratively to get this project. This announcement does not change Montgomery County’s opportunity as one of the three finalist for a Tyson plant in Kansas.”
MCAC and the City of Coffeyville are still on track to present a final proposal to Tyson Foods at the beginning of 2018.
MCAC received the following statement from Kansas Department of Agriculture: Congratulations to Tyson Foods on your new expansion plans and to the state of Tennessee for the agricultural growth you’re welcoming in your state. Consumer demand drives growth in the food and agriculture industry, and we have been aware throughout our own discussions with Tyson Foods that their expansion plans included multiple facilities in more than one state, so this announcement was not unexpected. We look forward to continuing to work with Tyson Foods as they further evaluate expansion of their poultry business unit growth opportunities in Kansas.
