Don’t Forget to Renew Your Membership to the Montgomery County Action Council

February 12, 2025

Don’t let the membership renewal window close before you update your account with the Montgomery County Action Council (MCAC). As one of the leading economic development organizations in Montgomery County, MCAC has a variety of programs to support existing businesses that are ready to grow. Whether you have expansion plans on the horizon or simply need to hire additional employees, MCAC is there.

“Getting involved in MCAC events is one of the best ways to get the most out of your membership,” says Melissa Johnson, Executive Director of MCAC. “We appreciate all of our members and love seeing them at networking events and other gatherings throughout the year.”

If you’re on the fence about renewing your membership – or even joining for the first time – learn about the value this organization provides. Here’s where your membership fees go and how they benefit your business.

5 Reasons to Become a MCAC Member

Every business across Montgomery County has its own reasons for joining MCAC, which means they benefit in different ways. However, there are a few common draws that reflect the value that MCAC provides. Here’s why you should join:

  • MCAC actively promotes its members to customers and the local business community throughout the year. You can actively grow your customer base through MCAC membership.
  • Members can enjoy business resources and support. Very few business owners are experts in everything. MCAC can connect you with resources to support your financial needs, marketing goals, legal questions, and hiring or upskilling challenges.
  • Your membership fosters business growth. When MCAC brings new employers to the region or fosters population growth, businesses benefit by having access to new customers.
  • Your membership shapes the future of Montgomery County. You can have a voice in what your city looks like five years from now – and even 10 years from now.
  • Be the change you want to see.
  • Your involvement can reach the state and federal governments. Your opinions can potentially be shared by MCAC leaders when they meet with elected officials.

Some business leaders join because of the direct networking opportunities and resources available. Others become MCAC members because they have a long-term vision for their communities and the state of Kansas.

Hear from Local Businesses That MCAC Has Helped

MCAC works with business owners across several industries and cities in Montgomery County. Here are a few stories from local leaders on how MCAC helped them.

  • “If you are a business in Montgomery County, I would definitely recommend joining MCAC. They keep you informed about important news from all of the different areas in the county. They offer training periodically which is very beneficial. MCAC was not only able to pay half of our incentive bonuses in 2024 but will continue to do so for 4 more years. Melissa Johnson and all of the other staff are awesome to work with! They are more than willing to help in any way they can.” – Sharon Brown, ABC Coffeyville Christian PreSchool and Childcare
  • “MCAC does a wonderful job for our county recruiting business to the area. I took advantage of their retention grant for my new employee this year, one of many things they do to help support local businesses. I'm not sure how to measure the value they provide, but I will continue my support,” - Nick McCollum, Derailed Commodity
  • “At Born to Blossom Behavioral Therapy, we provide autism assessments, ABA therapy, and mental health support for individuals with developmental disabilities across the lifespan. We are a family-centered organization, and the majority of our staff are women with families of their own — so we deeply understand the importance of creating a supportive, compassionate environment for both our clients and our team. MCAC has been an incredible resource in helping us do just that! Their support, especially with year-end retention bonuses, made it possible for us to give back to our hardworking staff in a meaningful way. Beyond that, MCAC connects us with valuable local resources, advocacy efforts, and a network of professionals who care about strengthening our community. If you’re a business looking for real support, connections, and opportunities to grow, MCAC is where you need to be!” Ali Wilbert, Born to Blossom

Talent Attraction Campaign

One of the best ways to get the most out of MCAC is to participate in its talent acquisition and retention program. Local and out-of-area job seekers can submit their resumes to MCAC which local employers can review via the MCAC resume portal. Applicants who qualify for grant funds will receive incentives in the form of retention bonuses for staying with their employers for an agreed-upon period of time. The incentives are customizable based on the employer and job seeker needs.

In the case of American Homes Realty, their new hire has the potential to earn $10,000 in bonuses just for staying with their employer.

“Companies benefit from this program by finding qualified candidates who are more likely to stay at the organization after they are hired,” says Johnson. “MCAC matches the company’s contribution, making it easier for businesses to afford retention bonuses.”
