3,000 Contractors Arrive in Coffeyville for CVR Energy Maintenance Project
March 26, 2025
Residents and business owners in Coffeyville may have noticed a significant increase in the local population as contractors arrive to work on the CVR Energy refinery. The company has brought in 3,000 technicians who will work on the refinery for about seven weeks. Some residents may have seen ads placed across town by CVR Energy announcing the maintenance project and expected workforce.
“CVR Energy already has a significant presence in the region, but the maintenance project highlights the secondary ways large refineries like this one affect local economies,” says Melissa Johnson, Executive Director of Montgomery County Action Council. “Many local business owners will benefit from the contract workers spending seven weeks here.”

The Large Contractor Base Speeds Up Project Timelines
CVR Energy is trying to minimize any potential disruptions that could occur because of this maintenance project. By bringing in 3,000 workers, the company can work quickly to complete any essential maintenance and repair tasks. This will allow the refinery to stay operational with minimal downtime.
As a producer of clean transportation products such as gasoline, diesel fuels, and other refined products, the CVR refinery works around the clock to meet the high demand of their clients. CVR Energy doesn’t have the luxury of working on the maintenance project for several months with a smaller workforce. By bringing in a larger staff, CVR Energy can continue to produce the clean transportation products our local, regional, and national businesses and industries rely on to transport their products across the country.
Local Businesses Are Encouraged to Overhire and Overstock
The 3,000 new faces around town are a good thing for Coffeyville and Montgomery County business owners. You might find these contract workers in your stores and restaurants when they’re not working. One of the best things your business can do is be nice to these visiting contractors and create a positive impression of Montgomery County.
“It’s not every day we get to show 3,000 new people why we love Montgomery County,” says Johnson. “The contractors can meet the wonderful people who live here and enjoy the charm of Coffeyville, Cherryvale, Caney, and Independence.”
Some business owners may see a bump in sales because of these contractors. To get the most out of their time here, increase your staffing during the seven-week period. Your business might also need to order additional supplies to account for the larger customer base.
Residents Are Asked to Be Patient During This Time
Some people may experience an increase in traffic because of the contractor workers or longer wait times at their favorite restaurants. CVR Energy is asking residents to be patient while the contractors are here. Their presence is temporary and beneficial to the local community.
“Many people move to Montgomery County because they enjoy the peace and safety of small-town life,” says Johnson. “The influx of workers is a temporary change that’s easy to get through.”
