El Charro & Their SBDC Story

April 2, 2026

Small Business Highlight: El Charro of Coffeyville, KS

Since opening its doors in 2011, El Charro has been serving the Coffeyville community with authentic flavors and a strong commitment to customer care. Owned by Salvador Bermudez, this locally loved restaurant has grown into more than just a place to eat—it’s a hub for connection, community, and opportunity.

Like many small businesses, El Charro faced its share of challenges early on. Seeking guidance through common business hurdles, Salvador connected with the Kansas Small Business Development Center. That decision proved to be a turning point. “They saved my business more than once,” he shares, highlighting the critical role support programs can play for entrepreneurs.

With the help of the SBDC, El Charro has been able to expand operations and create more jobs, contributing directly to the local economy in Coffeyville. Growth wasn’t just about the business—it was about giving back to the community that has supported them for years.

Salvador’s advice to other aspiring business owners is simple but powerful: “Don’t be afraid to ask for help, and treat customers like you would love to be treated.” That philosophy is evident in every aspect of El Charro, where hospitality and quality go hand in hand.

From overcoming challenges to building a thriving local business, El Charro stands as a testament to perseverance, community support, and the impact of small businesses done right.
