There are many opportunities for residents and employers in Montgomery County to get involved in workforce development by identifying upskilling opportunities and exploring new ideas. There are a few upcoming events that make it easy to connect with professional groups in the community while investing in Montgomery County in the long run.
“Talent attraction and development have been key focus areas for us over the past few years,” says Melissa Johnson, Executive Director of Montgomery County Action Council (MCAC). “Whether you are hiring dozens of workers or adding an employee for the first time as an entrepreneur, it’s important to have resources to find the right people.”
Here are a few upcoming events to support business leaders in the community through a workforce development lens, along with opportunities to build up Montgomery County for years to come.
The 2026 Women in Business Conference Focuses on Resilience
On Thursday, April 16, the Coffeyville Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Women in Business Conference at the Coffeyville Country Club. This year’s theme is “Change Is Your Superpower,” with Annette Lawless as the keynote speaker. Her session, How I Was Fired Freed by My Job, shares a message of resilience, reinvention, and leadership. It highlights how embracing change and adaptability can prepare women for the unexpected.
Additional topics during the conference include:
- Reinvention with AI: how this tool can give your business or career a competitive advantage.
- The Reinvented, Resilient, Superpowered You: a session focused on leadership through change.
- Dynamic Women in Business Panel: Hear from women who have built successful careers in traditionally male-dominated industries.
- Mastering Your Mindset: Practical strategies to shift limiting beliefs.
Tickets are $50, and seating is limited. Early registration is encouraged.
The State of the Workforce Lunch ‘N Learn Focuses on Data
Another valuable event in Montgomery County is the State of the Workforce Lunch ‘N Learn by Kansas WorkforceONE. This event will be held on Wednesday, May 6, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the Independence Civic Center. Join Deb Scheibler as she discusses how companies can use data and online resources to support their workforce.
This event will cover the employer services available through Kansas WorkforceONE and how they can help companies overcome common workforce challenges.
“Kansas WorkforceONE is a tremendous resource in the area for companies of all industries,” says Johnson. “Many of their services are free to use and designed to help the workforce as a whole. As a sponsor of this event, MCAC wants to showcase how they can help companies through tailored solutions.”
Tickets are $20 and include lunch. Attendees are asked to register before April 27.
